As Novalis, a famous German poet and philosopher once stated, “A hero is one who knows how to hang on one minute longer.” A hero does not show worry, but pushes through and can be courageous for only a little while longer than everyone else. Because heroes are people who put others before themselves, they must go above and beyond and not worry about their own safety. Heroes are selfless and put others before themselves in dangerous situations. Such as on 9/11, when a call was given out for boats to come rescue people off the island of Manhattan, where the terror attacks happened, as pictured in “Boatlift” Vincent Ardillo after hearing the news told his wife, “I gotta do something.” This represents heroism because Ardillo is not thinking of how he will be impacted, but rather of the people who need help, as many other people with access to a boat did as well. Also, Ardillo could have stayed home and been safe, but chose to sacrifice his well being and comfort for others. Another hero would be Clara Barton, the founder of the Red Cross, as Barton declared in a Civil War speech “I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them.” Barton distinguishes she could be hurt while helping the soldiers, however she does not dwell on the fact, deciding instead to carry on and make a difference despite the threat to health. This is heroic because Barton is putting others who cannot care for themselves and acknowledges she could be hurt, but does not let that get in the way of her reaching her goals. To sum up, heroes are everyday people who go out of their way to help others in need without the thought of payment. To continue Heroes constantly go above and beyond the call of duty and always persist. In the same manner, the book, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, written by Frederick Douglass, Douglass is at a convention on the rights of African Americans, when a colleague urges him to speak, to which he remarks, “The truth was, I felt myself a slave, and the idea of speaking to white people weighed me down. I spoke but a few moments.”(SB 72) This excerpt shows how Douglass is able to conquer his
“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man,but he is brave five minutes longer”.(Ralph waldo Emerson)Some people might think being a hero is all about flying, super strength, and just having special abilities, when it really isn't. Being a hero is all about helping people when being bullied or standing up for your rights and having bravery in your mind and courage. Hero’s take risk, they aren't cowards, and they show lots of bravery. Heros put other people's feelings into to their shoes and show their empathy towards they. They don't let the go through things alone.
“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer,” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). A hero is just like an ordinary person, but they make a choice to rescue someone, and put their life on the line. For instance, a hero is valiant when they need to be, sacrifices themself for another, and they don't put another in harm’s way.
According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American Essayist, ” A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer” If you are trying to be a hero you need to be able to deal with the bad times and the goods. Heroism is when a person is a supportive, caring, loving, helpful, will be there for you no matter what is happening, and will put you before themselves.
What is a hero? A hero is someone that others admire or look up to for something they have done. Heroes have to have many different qualities to be able to do the things they do. A hero shows bravery. They will stand for the things they believe in, no matter if it may cause them harm. They protect those around them as well. A hero is courageous. They take risks. Heroes must be able to overcome anything that is thrown their way. They do not cower in the face of fear, they laugh at it. One of the most important traits a hero needs is to be fearless. The word fearless means to not be afraid of things that may seem dangerous or scary to others.
Heros are willing to help no matter the situation. There way a guy on a French train with a Luger automatic pistol with extra ammo, but was tackled, beaten and tied up before he could do harm to anyone. He was a hero by tackling an armed person to save lives by risking his. Frederick Douglas was a former slave who was afraid to talk to anyone in fear of being captured. He said, “I was afraid to speak to anyone for fear of speaking to the wrong one and thereby falling into the hands of money loving kidnappers whose business it was to lie in wait for the panting fugitive as the ferocious beasts of the forest lie in wait for their prey.” SB, page 71. He helped get rid of slavery which is a big heroic act. There were boats in danger of falling buildings. One of the boatman said, “Were are a big orange target in the middle of the target. In conclusion they all went beyond what a normal person would do.
Heroes are willing to face danger sacrificing their lives for others. Heroism is not just demonstrated by being kind but being brave and courageous and willing to make a change, not worried about what could happen if the challenge is faced. Heroes are courageous and never doubt themselves.
A hero is a brave and strong person, who is also very human. A hero
“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.”~ Joseph Campbell. Heroes are people that have the capability and willingness to give their lives for a greater good. A hero does not have to die in the process, but does try and help others than him/herself. Sometimes, a hero is someone that starts out ordinary, but then makes themselves extraordinary with their effort and dedication. Ultimately, a hero is someone who helps others in times of need and is determined to help them, no matter the obstacle or challenges ahead.
When dealing with heroism a person needs to be strong and courageous. For example, a fireman goes into a fire to save someone without hesitation, putting their life in danger to save someone else. Or a soldier, leaving behind his family and friends and going to war, to fight for not just one person but the whole country, which is a great example of being a hero. Or in a less broad subject, a hero is a person like Martin Luther king Jr. who changed the world for the better. He spent his whole life devoting himself to making the world equal, and giving speeches, and through all the hate and discrimination he got he never once backed down, and eventually changed the world for the better.
A single mother sacrifices her life for her child’s. A fire fighter runs into a burning building to save a dog and her pups. A soldier dies on the battlefield for his country. These people are all examples of heroes. A hero is “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities” (Hero).
Maya Angelou once said, “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people”. Heroes, no matter the tasks they have to deal with, will always try to make a better place for the people around them. Heroes have courage and will be able to overcome most anything. Heroes, even when getting knocked down, get back up instantly. Heroism means putting others ahead of yourself, being courageous, and not giving up when times are tough.
Heroism means taking action when you are needed, showing dedication to your quest, and not giving up when all odds are against you. Some people think that heroes are always brave and strong, but they are not. A hero stands for what is right, in times of need and despair. Even through trials, a hero tries to stay on the path. Even when evil tempts them, they look to the light and strive to stay virtuous. A hero is willing to risk their life to save others, sacrifice for other’s needs, and not cave into evil but stand for good.
A hero is someone who sacrifices their life so they could help people instead of just worrying about their own well-being. They are selfless and rarely think about themselves.
A hero could be anyone. A hero is an ordinary person that did extraordinary things. In addition, some heroes endanger their own life in order to save another's person's life. They are strong leaders who put others in front of them. They will be willing to sacrifice their life. Also, they are never selfish and they will sacrifice their life to save another. According to Arthur Ashe ¨true heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.¨ Furthermore, ¨they endure personal risk to protect those values,¨ as Kendra cherry explained. True heroes are also the heroes you tend to not hear about. They are good people, with a
“A hero is someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and overcomes anyway.” - Christopher Reeve. Average everyday people face many challenges and overcome them most of the time, but there are certain challenges they just give up on. They start getting into a certain mindset where they claim they can’t overcome the challenge. A hero, however, sticks to the right mindset and keeps trying and getting better, despite the obstacles facing them. Even though they aren’t always able to save everything all the time, heroes risk and strive to reach their goals and do their best while exhibiting determination and modesty.
