State the Problem State your problem or specific financial need (i.e. I need $1,000 for yard signs in two really important precincts.) Offer a Solution The “solution” to the problem is for the donor to give money! Ask for a specific amount and, if you can, tell him you need it by a specific date. (The primaries are 6 weeks away, and signs take a week to print and a week to distribute.) Close the Sale (and thank them!) Make certain to ask for the contribution. Create a sense of urgency. (We are pushing to raise money this week, and would like to raise enough so that we can focus on door knocking next week.)
