spectrum drugs

Expert Solution
Step 1

A broad spectrum drug is one that is effective against a wide range of microbial organisms to treat infections. A few examples of broad spectrum drugs include azithromycin, tetracycline, quinolone and amoxicillin.

A narrow spectrum drug is one that  is effective against a particular class of microbial organisms. A few examples of narrow spectrum antibiotics include bacitracin used to treat Gram-positive infections and polymyxins used to treat Gram-negative bacterial infections. Glycopeptides are also examples of narrow spectrum drugs.
