I. What is child abuse?
Child abuse is a very sensitive issue that needs to by carefully handled. Child abuse is defined as a no accidental injury or pattern of injures to a child for which there is no reasonable explanation. Child abuse consists of different types of harmful acts directed toward children. In physical abuse, children are slapped, hit, kicked or pushed, or have objects thrown at them causing wounds, broken bones, or other injuries. Severe abuse may result in major injury, permanent physical or developmental damage, or even death. Sources of Reports Since 1990, statistics shown that 52% of the child abuse reports each year are made by Mandated Reporters. Mandated Reporters have the best opportunity to identify a child abuse problem before it becomes a statistic. A Mandated Reporter may be the only responsible adult in a particular child's life.
How do you report child abuse? Reporting is a personal and individual responsibility for Mandated Reporters and may not be delegated. However, internal procedures on who makes the report can be established to facilitate reporting and apprising supervisors of the report, as long as the procedure is consistent with, and adheres to the mandates of the law. Internal procedures may be helpful in facilitating reporting when more than one Mandated Reporter observes the same child. For example, three emergency room nurses may tend to the same injured child, or after consultation, a teacher and a resource specialist decide that a report should be made. The internal procedure may stipulate that the person with the most first hand knowledge make the report, and/or the report is made jointly with all parties signing the report, and/or, If more appropriate, each party makes an individual report. A type of child abuse is Physical abuse, this refers to a violent interaction with a child a parent's in which the parent inflicts bodily harm on to their child. Emotional abuse is abuse in which parents hurt their child’s feeling of rejection, abandonment, belittlement, name-calling, threatening, isolation or exploitation their child. Sexual abuse is when a child has exposed sex-related talk to sex-related actions that inflict some sort of harm on to a child. Neglect is another form of abuse where parents fail to care for their child’s basic needs, fail to provide a decent standard of living for their child and safety.
Child abuse is an issue within society that effects the lives of not only the victims but also the lives of many people in the social order. Child abuse is any mistreatment or neglect of a child that results in non-accidental injury or harm and which cannot be logically explained. There are several forms of abuse and neglect and many state governments have developed their own legal description of what constitutes child maltreatment for the purposes of removing a child and prosecuting a criminal charge. Advocacy is a fundamental responsibility in nursing because patients are inherently vulnerable (Creasia & Friberg, 2011). The scenario presented is challenging because, although the nurse suspects child abuse, there is a lack of explicit evidence. Yes, Tavion’s mother’s statement of concern about the suspicion of abuse should warrant a valid reason to lunch investigation in the child injury. Moreover, the emergency department staff had suspicion about the Tavion’s injury due to the fact injury is not consistence with an injury sustained in park playground. Policies and procedures are set in place to not only protect children and young people but also adults who work with them. It is vital that all professionals follow safe working practices to ensure that not only children are protected but also themselves. I have chosen to talk about in a childcare setting for this unit. An example is, if a disclosure is made by a child to a member of staff, it is vital that it is always taken seriously even if it is proven to be untrue or inaccurate. The reporting party is (RP) Ophelia Larose the grandmother of the foster child Aniyah Blake. The RP stated she and the biological mother had a visit with Aniyah on 6/19/15. The RP the foster father (Mark Cannon) did not bring food or diapers for the visit. When foster father was asked about the missing items the foster father replied "the FFA did not provide me with them when they dropped Aniyah off." The RP stated the child appeared very hungry and the bio mother provided the child with a bottle and diapers. The foster child had a diaper rash according to the RP. The reporting party (RP) disclosed that Taylor Trusheim DOB: 4/3/99 was brought into Sutter/Yuba Behavioral Health for a Triage appointment to assess for possible services. Prior to the appointment Taylor's mother La Vonne Bettencourt received a call from a family member who brought up an incident which occurred when she was 4 years old. The family member mentioned an incident where the child was molested by the daycare provider's husband Bret Baker. Subsequently the mother discussed the information with Taylor who confirmed the molestation. The confirmation alarmed the mother who recalled the last day the child was at the daycare. On that day after pick up 4 year old Taylor, the mother felt uneasy regarding an incident which occurred. According
