Though each religion is unique, some religions have several traits in common. For example, many religions are polytheistic, meaning that there are many gods. But, some religions only believe in one god, meaning that the religion is monotheistic. The religions also have many things that differ with each other, like the sacred text, symbol, and traditions. These qualities are what make each religion different and special. Each religion has its own set of ‘rules’ or teachings that the followers practice. In Christianity, there are the Ten Commandments. The Buddhist religion has the Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths. Muslims of the Islamic religion follow the Five Pillars of Islam. Despite that, Confucianism continues to have many followers. Two religions that are more related than any other religions are Christianity and Judaism. Both religions have similar beliefs. They also both believe in God and Jesus. This is where there is a difference: Christians believe that Jesus is the Messiah and died to save its followers from sin. Jews believe that Jesus is only a prophet, and the Messiah has not yet arrived. Another similarity is the sacred site. Jerusalem is a sacred city for three religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In addition to Jerusalem, Islamic people travel to Mecca and the city of Medina to pray as well. Another important site for Christians is Bethlehem—the birthplace of Jesus. Karma is a belief that Buddhists, Hindus, and Christians believe in. Karma is simply “what goes around, comes around”. However, Buddhists and Hindus believe that karma occurs after reincarnation in the next life. Christians believe that karma can take place in the current life as well. Buddhism and Hinduism also believe in dharma, which are the ethics and duties. Though some of these religions are related in one way or another, they each have their own sacred text that store their teachings and beliefs. The Jews follow the teachings of the Torah, which is the first five books of the Old Testament and is the cornerstone of Judaism. The Hindu text is
Religions across the globe have their own distinctive rites and rituals, idols, traditions, and values. Each have in common a desire to explain something unexplainable by common wisdom, or attributing some aspect of life to some higher power. Many religions have at their heart etiological stories, which explain some sort of natural phenomenon through the physical manifestation of their deity or deities. From high winds and thunderstorms to love, fertility, and the sun, such religions focus on the physical world in this life. Other religions try to explain the "next" life or the afterlife. These religions usually give a moral code to live by, with stricter adherence to this code offering a better afterlife.
All religions are similar in a manner, appreciating life, doing good, respecting others..etc yet they still have their differences, the differences that gives it, its uniqueness. And the person practising it, his individuality.
Judaism and Christianity are key religions in the history of our world, and are still around today. Both of these religions are monotheistic, believing in only YHWH, the God of Abraham. However, if we look deeper, there are many more similarities and differences in these two religions. Some things that are comparable are their political figures, their holy works, and social beliefs.
“Hinduism is a collection of religious beliefs that developed slowly over a long period of time.” (World History Patterns of Interaction, 2005) Hinduism has been made up of so many different cultures and beliefs that unlike Christianity and Islam it is unable to be traced back. Hindus believe in karma and reincarnation. Karma is good and
Other things that the religions all share are that they all have their sacred places of worship. For the Christians there is the church. For the Jewish people there is the synagogue and then for the Muslims there is the mosque. They also all have their Sabbath or day of rest that they take time to go to their holy place of worship. The Jewish Sabbath is on Saturday while the Christian Sabbath is on Sunday.
Out of all the major world religions Judaism and Christianity have the closest relationship. There are many difference and many similarities within these religions mainly because Christianity grew out of Judaism. Many people including Jesus and the twelve disciples were Jews (religionfacts.) These two religions are similar to some extent and differ in terms of the God they worship, religious text and the place where they offer their prayers.
Islam and Judaism are known as the two biggest religions in the world. There are about 1.6 million Muslims and approximately 21.7 million Jews. Each religion has a plethora of similarities and differences that help to shape each religion into what it is today. Both religions share the common belief in one God, although the Muslims called their God, Allah. However, these two religions differ because of their belief systems. Jews believe in a divine revelation as opposed to Muslims who believe in a prophet as the basis for their worship. Both of these religions are complicated in their own ways, but each religion is important to understand and learn about. Each religion has a different perspective but most important is where the religions generated from. Major religions started in various parts of the world.
There are many different religions with many different beliefs, traditions, practices, and rituals. These differences are a very important part of understanding and appreciating the culture and history behind the specific religion. However, the practices that certain religions have in common can aid even more in furthering the understanding of specific beliefs of other religions. Since most religions cultivate from the practices and beliefs of other religions, they use those core values and beliefs and transform them into what they believe is a better way practicing. Religions use similarities within each other and twist them into their own. There are certain beliefs within every religion that shape their practices such as their morals or their most essential or absolute value, their position on human beings’ problems and solutions, and their view on life and death within their religion. Pure Land Buddhism (a form of Mahayana Buddhism) and Vaishnavites (a group within Hinduism) are great examples of this very concept.
The first difference between the five religions is how they began, each one experienced some type of outside influence for its beginning. Judaism’s founding father was Abraham, who talked to God and was told by an angel that he would birth a promise son that would spring forth great nations and kings. Who was commanded by God to go to a land that he promised to give Abraham descendants. Judaism was developed from Abraham’s faith in God (Whiston p.34).
Different religions believe in many things that are essential in their life. Protestants, Jewish, Islamic, Atheist, and Hindu are just some religions that all have different beliefs compared if one were to compare. There are principles that are to be followed in each. If one were to take away different
