Was the free furniture in the form of a discount or rebate taxable, or should the furniture company have handed the customers a Form 1099-MISC?

1. The cartoon is of a Mongolian man's head, with eight tentacles spreading out. Each tentacle contains unwanted things that the illustrator thinks the Mongolians will take with them into Australia, should there be an influx of immigrants. The head if the man is drawn in a menacing manner, with an unfriendly scowl and two buck teeth that have a gap the size of another tooth between them. The multiple alleged vices of the Mongolians include: cheap labour, pak ah-pu (a gambling game), immorality, small-pox and typhoid, opium, bribery, fan-tan (another gambling game) and customs robbery. The fact that the man is depicted as an octopus implies that the Mongolians are thought of as slimy, unclean and therefore subordinate and perhaps the fact that the Asians would get a 'hold' on Australia.

While responding to the same statements as used in exercise 6.2, our group tried other types of responses. We each took turns being the therapist, client, and observer. We focused on reframing, siding with the negative, and shifting focus as these were a bit more difficult than agreement with a twist and personal choice. This exercise was a little easier because of the previous exercise 6.2. We worked on the statements independently and then read our responses out loud. We had to help each other at times come up with certain responses but it flowed better than the previous exercise. We learned that even though the client was making the same statement, our responses varied but were all relevant.
