Week 1 homework: Romanians: How a patient from this culture could affect communication between you and health team: It is generally assumed that all Romanians are liars and thieves. This is a stereotype. Yes, most of them are poor and some of them have no choice but to take things and lie. This is how some of them survive. Especially the Roma (gypsies). Most people assume the gypsies and the Romanians are one and the same when they are not. The Roma have the Romany language somewhat mixed with their home country, the ones who live in Romania mix Romanian with the Romany language. The Romanian language is a mix of Latin which dates back to the Roman times, Turkish, Greek, and Slavic languages. It also has some words that are derivative of German …show more content…
These conflicts have resulted in physical conflicts as well as occasional violence. Most Romanians are poor and the overall living standard is poor. They have some social classes though, there are the Elite, old Elite and the poverty stricken. In cities, most of the Romanians wear western clothing while other people wear the traditional garb. Roma people wear their bright colors and tend to stand out. Romanians are also very superstitious. They are considered the most superstitious and the most religious of the Europeans. They have some very strange superstitions like not having a window or door open especially when there is a breeze because the breeze will make you and themselves sick and if they have hiccups someone is thinking about them. They also believe that garlic will keep the vampires away and in covering the mirrors when a loved one is deceased. They use a lot of herbs in their medicine as well. They have many different religions in Romania. They have Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Protestant, and some that have an unaffiliated religion and some that have another different religion. Some even believe in pseudo and para science, horoscopes, tarot readings, and there is even many who practice this. They have a black magic tax in Romania allowing any of this stuff that they practice a legal profession although many
The Purnell Model for Cultural Competence places communication as one of the dominants (Purnell, 2002). Speaking the language of the patients would be the best tool that healthcare worker can use. It helps avoid many misunderstanding that may arise.
Marketing is often thought of as advertising and selling, but marketing encompasses more than just selling a product or service and advertising it to entice customers to make a purchase. Perrault, Cannon, and McCarthy (2009) defined marketing as "the performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization’s objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need satisfying goods and services from producer to customer or client" (p. 6). However, Kotler and Keller (2009) stated one of the shortest definitions is "meeting needs profitably" (p. 5). The author's definition of marketing includes all of the activities a business

Over the past five weeks, data has been collected from the process of getting my daughter, Sophie, ready for daycare in the morning. I have tracked six key areas, or steps, in the process: The time it takes to wake her up, The time it takes to get her to go to the bathroom, The time it takes to get her stuff ready, The time it takes to get her dressed, The time it takes to brush her teeth and hair, and The time it takes to get her into the car. In this paper, I will discuss what I have discovered based on this data, I will identify roadblocks to the process and recommend strategies to overcome them, and I will discuss the variables which affect the steps in the process. Finally I will discuss
Discuss two of the common chronic conditions affecting the elderly and identify preventative measures that you (or your classmates) can take at your age if you were faced with a strong family history of the disease: Type II diabetes and Stroke
The staff will be trained appropriately to fit their role in the program. The staff has a goal of being an effective staff in which they want to provide the best care for the suffering inmates. The top three health officials beginning with the psychiatrist, will be required to attend multiple mental health seminars in order to be an effective program. The staff will base their training off of moral standards such as the four basic rules by Suresh Bada Math which are “1. Protect, promote and endorse human rights of the prisoners. 2. Take care of the needs of the prisoners to the extent feasible within the prison environment. 3. identify patients who have health problems and get them the needed health care. 4. Pay special attention to the vulnerable
To end the stereotyping and doubt that police officers have toward African Americans, the participants of the event should incorporate Xavier students, personnel and staff, Xavier University Police Department, and randomly chosen African Americans and police officers in Cincinnati. The random selection will be done online, where African Americans who are interested in attending the event would sign up online. Afterward, they will be chosen at random and will be later informed that they have been selected. Similarly, the names of the Cincinnati police will be selected at random. The random selection will eliminate bias. It is also essential that Xavier students and Xavier Police be available in order to construct a bond between the two. Their presence is important in the dialogue so as to prevent incidents like that of Tamir Rice from happening at Xavier. Furthermore, in order to guarantee full participation, I recommend that the Xavier Administration make this event a no class day and make it mandatory. Students should likewise be given some sort of encouragement to attend the event. For example, Xavier can sponsor for every student who attends the event to have a free dinner at the
First the Roma society’s deal with people stereotyping them into one lump. People see them as uneducated, but partially we are to blame because we wont allow them to merge into our society. Due to them being uneducated they live in poverty. Gypsies are stereotyped as being poor, due to this we treat them poorly regardless if we know if they are poor or not. Last we also treat them differently and define them by the way they dress. But by us stereotyping them we are taking away their opportunities to better themselves.
First of all, based on the information found during the research, it can be seen that mainstream media portray Roma people in France and Romania in a neutral or negative way, and rarely in positive way. Regardless of the news about Romani is positive of negative, there seems to be more coverage when specific circumstances occur, for instance, crime.
The Roma culture, due to their nomadic life is disparaged by Europeans because they are seen as homeless and thieves. As an American-European who has lived in Portugal for 10 years, I have witnessed the hatred towards the Roma culture in person. The Roma culture, otherwise known as gypsies live in small “Casas de Lata” (Tin houses) in encampments next to neighborhoods. Their views and culture are mainly rejected by society in Europe for the fact that lifestyle, language, customs and behaviors are different. As one of the Hungarians stated in the video, fear is present whenever a gypsy is seen in the street. In Portugal, similar situations are presented, where I would be afraid to talk or even look at people from descendent of the Roma culture.
Many of the Roma children are taught to lie when begging in an attempt on other civilizations to have more compassion on them. Begging is often looked at by many cultures as the lowest form of work. Furthermore, the Roma children count on this money to help pay bills alongside of their parents. This form of money making has caused the Roma people to have little influence in other societies. Howell and Paris suggest, “Some individuals or groups have more authority than others; that is, people grant legitimacy to their words and actions” (Introducing Cultural Anthropology, 132). Using this logic, it would be rare for the Roma culture to have much authority when they are found on the streets begging for

During World War II, where we, the Communist Party of China (CPC), allied ourselves with the Chinese Nationalists, otherwise known as the Kuomintang (KMT). The moment the war had ended, our temporary partnership against the Japanese was shattered. Tensions between us have only been growing. China is currently split between the CPC, the KMT, and the Soviet Army. We in the CPC currently control land in Northeast China, while the Soviet Army holds Manchuria and the rest of the country is occupied by the KMT. Reports have indicated that that the KMT is quite hostile towards the ideals and the existence of the CPC. The KMT is still armed and is prepared for another fight. They are not expecting us to form a positive relationship with them. Furthermore,
The Romani people of Europe are often referred to as "Gypsies". Thought they prefer to be called Roma. The Roma are descendants of the ancient warrior classes of Northern India, particularly the Punjab, and they are identifiable by their language, religion, and customs. The "Gypsies" gained there widely known name due to the fact that when they first arrived in Europe people believed that they had migrated from Egypt. Even after this was found to be untrue that name stuck to this minority group.
Apart from this, there is another issue to present. Whenever something goes wrong in Romania, there is a strong tendency for people to consider themselves as victims of circumstance, which leads to two subsequent effects. First of all, they exhibit passivity in the face of gross public abuses. Secondly, they have the tendency to find outsiders to blame. This can be proved by a very good example: the Emma Nicholson scandal over children’s homes. Rather than face the issue, the country seemed to unite in outrage at how this foreign woman dared to expose the things that we don’t speak about. This, of course, underlines the weakness of the society.
